Riding the Rails - Steam Powered

Published by slcolman under Life in General Edit This

Today we had the privilege of getting to ride as passengers with the UP Steam Locomotive # 844.

Here is a picture DH took of the train pulling into the Old Depot in Medicine Bow, Wyoming to pick us up!!

Can’t you just feel the excitement of the people in the crowd awaiting the train!?!  The woman in the red jacket is my Mother In Law who set everything up so that 46 lucky people got to ride on this historic train from Medicine Bow to Rawlins as part of the Western Heritage Tour that the UP Steam Locomotive # 844  is currently on.  This train ride also was the kick off of the centennial celebration for the town of Medicine Bow with the rest of the festivities being held June 26, 27, and 28 here in town.

This is the conductor who was in charge of the passengers while aboard the train today.

My DH snapped this photo as the conductor was checking tickets.

Riding the train was so much fun!!  The car that we rode in was great and offered a very smooth and quiet ride.  The passenger cars were even climate controlled!  I was shocked by how nice the ride was and how much I enjoyed it especially since it was my first time ever on a train (other than at places like Disney World and such).  I truly am honored for my first train ride to have been with this historic locomotive.

I even got a few souvenirs of the ride from the souvenir car on the train!!   I got this adorable pink UP hat and a very cool long sleeve T-shirt too!

If you want to see the full schedule of when and where you can see this historic train while it is on the current tour then check out the Western Heritage Tour Schedule .  If you want to see more information about and better pictures of this train and the rest of the UP Steam fleet then check out the info at UP Steam .
