Freelance Writing
As some of you know, I was laid off from my job “for the season” so to speak. Basically my name is no longer on the schedule for regular work but I can be called in if other people do not show up for their shifts. Yeah, it is a huge drag :( But yesterday I got my first freelance writing gig!! I am now a contributer for http://dietdorm.com and I got the project through www.elance.com which I highly recommend if you are trying to break into the area of freelance working. They do charge a minimal fee to apply for projects and then take a cut of your pay but really it isn’t too bad on the fees. So, I am pretty excited!! The project doesn’t pay much but at least it is a start! I hope that by getting this first project that I am able to get the ball rolling and get more projects. Isn’t that some old quote or something that the first is always the hardest?

Congratulations on your writing job. I had a few private jobs last month but this month I am trying to crack the blogging code and doing some affiliate stuff. I hope you get lots more work soon.
I’ve browsed around on elance but I wasn’t really sure how to get into the swing of things. I applied for a couple of jobs but I don’t think my credentials look as good as what I’m capable of lol Any suggestions?
summer - My credentials don’t make me look as good as I am either. I really don’t have much of a suggestion other than really applying for the positions that you think you can do well and send samples that directly pertain to the project if possible. That is how I got my first break!
I have great credentials, but I’m not looking to work. I’m retired (see happy face).
Good luck to you all. Be sure you get the money you deserve. On the web promises are not always kept.

How great for you! I have heard good things about elance. I have never worked for them as I am too busy but I know that a lot of people like it!
You may also like to look at my website http://www.iwanttostayhome.blogspot.com for other freelance writing jobs. You may enjoy www.associatedcontent.com or www.demandstudios.com. Demand pays the best and consistently but you have to send a resume with writing examples (so you could write some stuff for associated content or ehow to show them). I don’t focus on them unless I need a large amount of cash within a month because the articles sometimes take a lot of research but they do have a writer program to help you improve and the pay isn’t bad at all for someone just starting out in freelance writing at $15 an article (I made around $700 in October). Email me if you have any questions!
